Peter Morava is a classically trained artist with over twenty-five years of experience specializing in the traditional art of stained and leaded
glass. Morava started his career as an apprentice for a stained glass studio in southern California in the early 80’s. This led him to a degree specializing
in glass blowing and innovative flat glass techniques at Southern Illinois University. In Carbondale, he acquired skills in traditional hand-beveling,
sandblasting, acid-etching, fusing, casting, and painting on glass. Upon receiving his BFA, Morava moved to Pennsylvania where he was involved with
the renovations of row houses in the downtown historic district of Philadelphia. He then returned to his hometown, Chicago, to work with a local glass
business before opening Morava Studios in 1994.
His range of influence spans anywhere from the Prairie Style School to Victorian architecture. Restoration highlights include working on
historical artwork designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Walter Burley Griffin, E.E. Roberts, Greene and Greene, Connick& Associates, and George Maher. Many projects, produced by Morava and teamed with partners, have gone to win awards of recognition both nationally
and locally. Personally, Morava was awarded Accreditation by the Stained Glass Association of America in 2001 and was nominated to the national
SGAA Repair and Restoration Committee in 2005. Morava occasionally lectures on the technical and artistic aspects of art glass and the home. |
